Available Positions > Job Description Recreation: Program Supervisor, Drop In Programs (Part Time) POSITION: Program Supervisor - Drop in Programs Parks and Recreation Department, Groton Community Center Part-Time, up to 10 hours/week, Afternoon/Evening Hours 2:45 PM to 5:15 PM
STARTING RATE: $19.50/hour POSITION RANGE: $19.50-$20.50/hour
POSITION OVERVIEW & REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The Drop-In Program Supervisor's responsibilities include leading and supervising after-school programs and activities for middle and high school students at the Groton Community Center. Examples of programs and activities include: open gym for teens, esports, social activities, games, outdoor activities, sports, fitness, dance, arts and crafts.
The ideal candidate must be able to successfully relate to diverse cultures, abilities, and interests, and have the strong ability to communicate with teens, maintain respect and discipline from participants, and to develop and maintain a cooperative relationship with associates, parents and others.
After school program applicants should be prepared to actively participate in activities as stated above as well as be prepared for any situation that may arise. Applicants will be required to get First Aid and CPR trained (provided by the Department of Recreation). Candidates should come to work with positive attitudes, be flexible, firm but fair, excited to work with teens, and a team player. Professionality is expected of all employees during operating hours. Employees will be present when teens arrive and be alert and active for remainder of shift. This means participating in games and activities, problem solving, spreading attention and responding to the needs of the participants in program.
The skills and knowledge required would usually be acquired by four (4) years of work experience in group recreational activities or an allied field of which one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity. In lieu of stated requirements, a combination of experience and training may be considered.
