+ Education and Experience

  • Associates' Degree or higher, from an accredited nursing program. 
  • Must have a current Registered Nurse license through the State of Maryland or an accepted multi-state license to practice. 
  • Must have or be willing to complete DDA Delegating Nurse training at the earliest opportunity. 
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience and previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old. 

 
+ Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with the Maryland State Board of Nursing Practice Act.
  • With the nursing team, provide 2 hour accessibility/ response via telecommunication for the provision of quality nursing care of individuals served in Adult Services residential settings and delegate instructions to unlicensed personnel and Certified Medication Technicians. 
  • Complete a nursing assessment and establish goals and objectives to address and meet the health care needs of each individual on their case load, or others when needed and subsequent 45-day reviews. The Delegating registered nurse will also provide hospitalization and post hospitalization intervention, quarterly medical reports, if warranted, and any follow-up or nursing care plan revisions, as may be determined. 
  • Assist with development of orientation and on-going staff training programs, especially when the training relates to nursing/medical issues. 
  • Identify and provide on-going staff training as required by the State regulations. This training includes, but is not limited to, the following: Nursing Care Plans for individuals supported, Infectious Diseases, Medication Technician (CMT) initial certification and refresher courses, and other health related training.
  • Comply with Maryland DDA requirements to complete and/or review Health Risk Screening Tool (HRST)on-line assessments.
  • Maintain Certifications that are necessary for compliance with training requirements. 
  • Administer the provision of medical and nursing intervention which are outside the scope of unlicensed staff or deemed inappropriate to be delegated to unlicensed personnel such as injectable medications, immunizations, or treatments ordered by a physician. 
  • Assist the Direct Support Professionals (DSP), Group Home Managers, or Program Coordinators in scheduling completion and documentation of medical appointments, along with follow-up coordination. When specific intervention is necessary, the delegating registered nurse may be required to act as a medical liaison, on behalf of the individual, primary care physician, specialist or other health care providers, parents, guardians, families and other Benedictine personnel. 
  • Perform site visits to audit the provision and proper notation of nursing assignments, review of medication monthly medical reviews, monitor CMT's activities in compliance with the Maryland Board of Nursing Standards. Evaluate sites to maintain optimum safety for our consumers. 
  • Update all health information prior to the inclusion into the individual's file. 
  • Implement the current agency monitoring system to oversee medication administration and assess competency of skills learned according to DDA regulations, Maryland Board of Nursing, and all Benedictine standards. 
  • Relay pertinent information regarding medications, dietary recommendations, or any medical/nursing issues concerning individuals to the DSPs, Group Home Managers, Program Coordinators, Vocational/Employment Managers, other nursing staff or Eastern Shore Regional Office (ESRO) nurse as indicated. 
  • Prepare Medical Report and attend Interdisciplinary Team Meetings and Admission or discharge meetings when indicated, for people receiving Benedictine Residential or Day Services concerning pertinent medical issues. 
  • Participate in licensing surveys and other service audits or reviews. 
  • Establish a relationship with medical/nursing vendors who provide health care services to the people Benedictine supports. 
  • Maintain confidentiality (HIPPA) of all residents and promote individuals rights at all times. 
  • Follow MD nursing practice standards and DDA regulations for all nursing interventions and documentation. 
  • As required, follow DC DDS regulations and nursing practice standards.

Hours of work

  • Full time
  • Day shift, Monday - Friday; 8am-4pm with a rotating on-call schedule.

Overtime expectations

  • Overtime is not required but is regularly available and much appreciated. Any employee can request extra hours, regardless of seniority

Work environment

  • Ridgely Campus and/or Group Home Setting.

Travel requirements

  • Minimal.

On-call responsibilities

  • Rotating On-call schedule.
