Nurse Practitioner  (Full Time)

 GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner will be involved in a variety of patient care activities, conducted under the supervision of designated family medicine attending faculty, and in close collaboration with the residents of the family medicine residency program (as applicable). 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs physical examinations and preventative health measures. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs.
  2. Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient’s condition.
  3. Discusses case as needed with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
  4. Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by Physician.
  5. Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  6. Refers patients to appropriate consultants or to specialized health resources for treatment.
  7. Responds to nursing and medical staff queries and pages concerning patient needs Performs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, maintains BLS and PEARS certification.
  8. Exhibits organizational communication and leadership skills, accountability, judgment and decision making.
  9. Provides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet and exercise, emotional health, and health maintenance.
  10. Serves as a member of selected committees, as directed by the Program Director

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner educational program.
  2. National certification from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  3. Existing unrestricted license to practice in Michigan, or able to be licensed in Michigan.
  4. Current ACLS and PALS certification, or planned attainment of same
  5. Excellent practice history, ability to be insured for liability purposes.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience working with Electronic Medical Records and computers 
  2. Two years of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner or completion of graduate program.
  3. Valid CPR certification is required. Accepted certifications include American Red Cross: BLS for Healthcare Professionals or American Heart Association BLS. Certificates must remain current.
  4. Experience in an Academic Medical Center or teaching environment.
