GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Rheumatology Nurse Practitioner will be involved in a variety of patient care activities, conducted under the supervision of designated attending faculty, and in close collaboration with the residents of various residency programs (as applicable).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Performs physical examinations and preventative health measures. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
- Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patients condition.
- Discusses case as needed with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
- Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by Physician.
- Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment
- Refers patients to appropriate consultants or to specialized health resources for treatment.
- Exhibits organizational communication and leadership skills, accountability, judgment and decision making.
- Provides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet and exercise, emotional health, and health maintenance.
- Serves as a member of selected committees, as directed by the Program Director/
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner educational program.
- National certification from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
- Existing unrestricted license to practice in Michigan, or able to be licensed in Michigan.
- Current ACLS and PALS certification, or planned attainment of same
- Excellent practice history, ability to be insured for liability purposes.
- Valid CPR certification is required. Accepted certifications include American Red Cross: BLS for Healthcare Professionals or American Heart Association BLS. Certificates must remain current.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Records and computers
- 1-year experience in Rheumatology
