Mechanic Specialist  (Full Time)

Position Title: Mechanic Specialist-Electrical

General Function:

The Mechanic Specialist will perform skilled automotive mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Greater Bridgeport Transit Authoritys buses, trucks, automobiles, heavy and light equipment both diesel and gasoline powered; and other mechanical equipment.

Maintain proper maintenance and repair records, operate agency vehicles as necessary (non-revenue service,) make road calls as needed, recommend purchase of needed tools and supplies, and perform related tasks as required

Accountability:

This position reports to the Maintenance Foremen and supervises subordinate level Mechanics.

Position Requirements:

Requirements:

Graduation from high school or its equivalent with at least three (3) years experience in vehicular repair of heavy-duty equipment or buses. Completion of technical/vocational training in vehicular repair courses preferred.

Experience with hand held power tools used in the repair of vehicles required.

Excellent mechanical aptitude required.

Must possess a valid Connecticut drivers license and be able to obtain a Class B license and medical certificate with ninety (90) days of employment.

Uses safety equipment and protective clothing as appropriate and necessary. Maintains good housekeeping habits in work area to avoid injury to self or others. Immediately reports to supervisor or risk manager any safety or security issue, and makes recommendations for improvement. Observes building access restrictions and locks doors when not present. Knows the nearest two safety exits and participates in safety drills.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently sit, stand, walk; squat and talk.

While performing the duties of this job the employee works primarily in the Maintenance Garage with exposure to extreme noise when interfacing in the shop areas. Decibel range of 85+ duration on an occasional level.

Exposure to mechanical hazards, fumes/odors, paints and chemical hazards to the shop areas.

Subject to all weather conditions.

Occasional periods of lifting and carrying supplies and equipment weighing up to and over 100 pounds (employees are instructed to seek assistance at this level, using co-workers, lifts, hoists, carts, etc.)

Occasional pushing and pulling of objects to include but not limited to: tool carts, step ladders, 4-wheeled carts, components, tools, body parts, etc.; up and over 100 pounds.

Working knowledge of occupational hazards, precautions and safety requirements of the associated job duties.

Employees must obey safety rules established by the company and exercise caution in all work activities and work areas.

Ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities.

Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance, where required.

Ability to work various shifts, hours and days.

Ability to meet attendance requirement.
