 PURPOSE

 

This position performs such duties as receiving materials, issuing materials, storing equipment and materials, and conducting inventories.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

 

1.       Operates a variety of material handling equipment such as: forklifts, boom trucks, flatbed trucks and hand trucks for issuance and receipt of materials and supplies.

 

2.       Counts, sorts, or weighs incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisitions or invoices.

 

3.       Examines stock to verify conformance to specifications.

 

4.       Stores articles in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information.

 

5.       Fills orders or issues supplies from stock.

 

6.       May participate in annual inventory of stock; participates in other inventory work as requested.

 

7.       Requisitions articles to fill incoming orders.

 

8.       May mark identifying codes, figures, or letters on articles.

 

9.       May distribute stock among construction workers, keeping records of material issued.

 

10.       May make repairs to small tools.

 

11.       At times must work with or around consumers.  Must provide a highly professional level of prompt, efficient, accurate, courteous and reliable service in such a manner to reflect favorably on the management of the Association and to assure quality service to the membership.  Must be able to respond appropriately to stressful and/or confrontational circumstances with consumers and/or members of the public, and with fellow employees.

 

12.       May determine methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and required space.

 

13.       May move or transport material or supplies to other departments, using hand or industrial truck.

 

14.       Employee shall maintain good attendance in accordance with Association policy and current agreements.

 

15.       Perform the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the Association’s work rules and safety policy.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

·        Qualified candidates are required to have a high school diploma, or equivalent, and must have demonstrated past success in performing typical warehouse duties.

 

·        Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in the handling of those items kept in MEA’s warehouse facilities and with experience in all areas of inventory control and monitoring.

 

·        Candidates must have a valid Alaska driver’s license with a current Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement and a driving record, which is acceptable and insurable by MEA's insurance carrier at standard group rates.  An annual consent for release of one’s driving record is also required.

 

 

NOTE:  Complete achievement of certain of the above specifications may not be required if, in the opinion of the MEA hiring supervisor, a particular candidate possesses significant offsetting characteristics, such as past accomplishments, experience, education, or estimate of future potential.  Should an applicant be deficient in certain educational achievements, offsetting experience may be substituted or vice versa.

 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·         Read and understand manuals.

 

·        Skilled in the operation of equipment used in the warehouse, such as forklifts used both inside and outside of the warehouse. 

 

·         Recognize and differentiate between various line maintenance materials.

 

·         Quickly learn computer software programs.

 

·        Math skills to include practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, and other math skills required in warehouse work.

 

·        Data entry and operation of tracking and/or barcode programs on computer and scanning equipment.

 

·         Ability to operate mainframe and personal computers using Microsoft Office Suite.

 

·         Self-motivated improvement based on successes and failures.

 

·         Analyze processes for efficiency and make recommendations for improvements.

 

·         Contribute to a positive and constructive work environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

·        The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

·         While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to:

 

-         Walk and carry equipment and materials over uneven ground and around obstacles under a wide variety of conditions.

 

-         Carry out strenuous physical activities common to this position.  The employee will be required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, finger, and feel on a frequent basis while moving material both inside and outside of the warehouse.

 

-         Lift 100 pounds maximum weight with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

 

-         Repeatedly lift and/or handle objects, which are reasonable for warehousemen to handle.  Many items are in excess of 20 pounds.

 

-         Use a computer to input data and produce documents and reports.

 

-        Communicate through speech and hear conversations with others by telephone, radio, and in person.

 

-        Visual acuity to discern writing on paper to include communication with others electronically, read and comprehend documents and reports via paper and computer format, and read numbers on parts and equipment.

 

-         Periodically operate a vehicle.

 

-        Frequently operate material handling equipment such as: forklifts, boom trucks, flatbed trucks, and hand trucks.

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

 

·        The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

·         This position works both inside a warehouse and outside in the elements.

 

·        The employee must be able to work in variable weather conditions, including but not limited to rain, high winds, temperatures in excess of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit, large amounts of snow, possibly over long periods of time and in darkness, etc.

 

·         Subject to bee stings and insect bites.

 

·        The employee must be able to work long hours under stressful conditions when restoring power during storms, outages, or other emergency conditions.

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

 

This position is classified as a non-exempt, represented position, and is eligible for overtime compensation based on both Federal and State of Alaska laws.  All MEA employees are expected to work widely varying amounts of either (1) unscheduled overtime such as during power restoration activities; or, (2) scheduled overtime required to accomplish special projects.
